Surgery #4 - Road to an Amputation

This late night surgery routine is getting more than tiresome.  I can't even imagine the surgeon, but I've been assured that this is how they train them.  More on our day in ICU and his 4th and last surgery.

Date: Fri, Oct 7, 2016 at 7:03 AM Steve gets to eat breakfast & drink (until 8am)!!! He's actually on his second glass of OJ now.  This is the first fluid/food since Monday, so it's super exciting.

I think it will be another long day as they're going to let the meds do its thing as long as possible. But 4 hours after his procedure today they'll be getting him up out of bed & on track to going home in a few days.

He's not out of the woods yet and will battle pain again today, but we're looking at the pain as a positive, as it means the reentry of blood flow to his leg/foot.

Steve said "Thanks for having me in your prayers and thoughts." I'll second that!

Date: Fri, Oct 7, 2016 at 9:33 PM Okay, they finally came to get Steve for his last surgery. They'll be taking pictures to check the progress, removing the catheter, & closing him up. It's my understanding he'll come back to ICU - lay flat for a few hours, then they'll get him up at of bed 4 hours later & he'll be discharged from ICU into a regular room for the rest of his time here. Prayers for more amazing news please.

Date: Sat, Oct 8, 2016 at 3:39 AM 4th surgery is over. The last 24hrs of clot busting meds yielded no additional help. However the Dr worked extremely hard in tonight's surgery to ensure Steve the most success. He was able to open up all veins leading into his foot, including being able to hear/feel a good pulse. There's still a lot of blockage from ankle down to his toes & he'll have a rough road ahead.

Over the next several days he'll have to learn how to pain manage, probably do some PT, & heal. They cannot guarantee that the blockages they were able to open up tonight are going to stay open. Steve's body is going to have to heal itself at this point.

The goal is for him to rest over the next few hours & try to get him out of ICU.
