A Cup of Coffee & Out of ICU - Road to an Amputation

It may seem silly to some to even mention a cup of coffee, but after the punishment that Steve's been through over the past week, a cup of coffee is a treat and a sign of some normalcy.

It also a good sign that he'll be getting out of ICU soon...we hope.

Read the time-stamped text messages to see how our day played out.

Date: Sat, Oct 8, 2016 at 7:29 AM They just finished morning rounds.  They're happy with his pulses - both were audible.  He has good strength in his toes, but it was super painful to do their strength tests.

The goal in the next hour is to get him sitting up & drinking a cup of coffee. They've got a few more tests in ICU, but then they'll try to get him moved to an intermediate floor - not ICU, but not "regular" floor. I think that's due to the continued labs they have to do to monitor his blood counts.

It sounds like he'll be in the hospital until Tues/Wed at the earliest. Then he'll be 10+ days out of being able to go to work. We'll know more about his home care (PT, etc) when he gets closer, but it sounds like this is a longer road to a full recovery than we were thinking/hoping.

Date: Sat, Oct 8, 2016 at 4:36 PM Made it out of ICU, pain is under control, & spirits are up. If you're coming he's in room 1013. I'm heading home to see Talon for the first time since Sun. to all!
