Leaky Kidney - Road to an Amputation

Steve went to a nephrologist (kidney specialist) on Monday, September 12th.  He, of course, had blood work and another urinalysis which again showed very high levels of protein.  The doc thought that with Steve being an otherwise healthy 44 year old and the symptoms coming on so quickly that we should get to the bottom of this quickly...duh!  It was discovered via blood work that his kidneys were filtering the toxins, but leaking protein.  If you like visuals, he associated it to a leaky oil filter.  He ordered more blood work, an ultrasound of his legs and abdomen to rule out blood clots, as well as a kidney biopsy.  He was re-prescribed Lasix, along with potassium and told to go back down to 20mg of Lasix.  Plus he was put on a 50oz fluid restriction and 2g of salt diet.  The efforts with the change in diet and Lasix were to help him loose the water weight quickly, but as healthy as possible.
