Saturday (9/24/16), Steve had complained about his right calf. He said it was super tight and felt like it could seize at any moment. By Sunday that feeling had transferred from his calf to his shin and top of his foot. He stood and stretched it for an hour or more while we watched our son's lacrosse game. However, when he sat in the truck to come home it was such a sharp pain he was nearly screaming.
When we got home (about 30 minutes of pain) he changed into shorts and flip flops, that's when I could see that his toes and top of his foot were turning purple. I leaned over to get a closer look and touch it - it was ice cold. I told him I thought it could be a blood clot and that we should probably go to the ER. In typical male fashion (sorry hon) he said no and decided to call his PCP who also suggested the ER. Maybe it was because he explained that it was so they could do an ultrasound, maybe it was the pain or maybe just because he was scared. Regardless, he actually agreed to go, so off we went to the hospital.
They didn't listen to us - they ordered an x-ray of his foot (nothing wrong), an ultrasound was done from his groin down (nothing found), and they did blood work. He was a little low in calcium so they gave him a calcium drip and said he could go. Are you kidding me? They haven't come to any conclusions, my man's still in a ton of pain and we have no answers. But, yes, just leave. They were literally pushing us out of the door and I finally thought to ask for pain meds. They shrugged and gave him 6 Vicodin and said if his pain persisted to return to the ER in a week. Sadly the Vicodin did nothing for the pain.
