Amputation Day - Road to an Amputation

October 24, 2016 at 5:03 PM - They took Steve down to surgery.  It took just over 2.5 hours and they let me down into the post-op area to visit with him before he was taken back to his room.

Steve was awake and rambling on to the nurse in his area as a peeked around the corner before walking in. His legs were not covered! GULP! I mean, of course, I knew he was having surgery to have part of his leg cut off, but guess I just assumed he would be covered and it would be unveiled when I was with him.

He was in such high spirits. Like, unusually high spirits. I asked him how he was doing and he smiled, looked down and said, "Well, it's gone. FINALLY!" I guess that's what happens when you've been in such acute pain - just relieved that the pain was over and he was ready to start this new chapter in his life.
