Ew! Gross right!?! Trust me, I know what you're thinking! What in the world does Vagisil® (moving forward I will refer to this as "the cream" because I don't want to have to keep advertising it - tee-hee!) have to do with an amputation or a MAN for that matter!?! Well, let me tell you.
I came home from work one day to find a tube of "the cream" sitting on Steve's nightstand, that's my hubby in case you didn't know. So, I did what any other wife would do, I asked what in the world he was doing with it. He said that he had a follicular sore and that his prosthetist had recommend "the cream" or similar to help with the burning.
Okay, backup Bucky! What in the world is a follicular sore, and why does it require a female hygiene product to "take the burn away?"
A follicular sore is when a hair pore/follicle gets inflamed and infected. This can be common with an amputee who wears a prosthetic because the silicone sleeves they wear causes them to be sweaty and the friction or rubbing doesn't help matters. They are extremely painful and burn.
So, jumping back to my discovery of "the cream." Google says that "Vagisil® relieves even the most painful, burning vaginal itch fast. It also forms a protective barrier over delicate intimate skin to help reduce the chance of further irritation, providing long-lasting comfort." I read the ingredients, pondered what it's used for and thought, "Is there a more natural way we can resolve the issue?" The answer is an astounding yes!
I asked Steve if he was cool continuing to use "the cream" or if you would rather try our essential oils and products to help. I've gotta be honest, my husband trusts me and is open minded, but like most, he was super skeptical on if what I had in mind would actually work. When you're in pain and you're already using something that does indeed take the burn away I'm sure he was worried that he would have to continue to suffer while I "played nurse."
I figured that our essential oils and products wouldn't just help with the burning, but my thoughts were that they would actually help to soothe and more importantly heal the sore(s), which is something "the cream" doesn't do. It's great at one thing for follicular sores - taking away the burn.
Dot-da-da-dahh! Enter Correct-X and Clove essential oil.
Not to worry, I'll go into more details about the how's and why's in next weeks blog post, but if you're impatient and can't wait to learn more I'll put some links to the products below as they are on the doTERRA website. Remember doTERRA won't talk about how these products are amputee specific, but that's where we come in, right?
Steve and I are certainly willing to help you if you're struggling with this. Don't hesitate to reach out with
questions.
