10 Day Water Challenge

I think most of us know and understand that water is good for us and that we’re supposed to drink a lot of water every day. You’ve probably even heard that the human body is mostly water. I found various numbers, but the one that stood out the most was that the average human body is made up of roughly 60% water. Why are there various numbers? Well, simply put we’re all different. The amount of water in our body can depend on our age, sex, and lifestyle choices.

I’m an essential oil educator, so why am I talking about water? As someone who owns a holistic health and wellness business it should go without saying that my job is to provide you with natural solutions to help you with your health goals. The part of my job that you may not know is that I really try to do everything in my power to keep things simple. I don’t think you have to spend a ton of money to feel like a million bucks, ya know!?

If you follow me at all then you’ve heard me preach about our foundational health. I teach the importance of proper nutrition, exercise, and supplementation. Water is one of those foundational health items, that probably doesn’t get as much time in the spotlight as it should. It’s one of those things we know we should do, but a large majority of us have a hard time with. So, I thought I’d share a few things to hopefully help motivate you to boost your water intake up a notch.

One of the biggest questions I hear is how much water should I really be drinking in a day? The easiest rule of thumb to follow is to drink half your body weight in ounces each day. Now, if you’re a skinny-mini this might not be so daunting, but the more you weigh the more you should drink. As an example, if you weigh 120lbs, then you should be drinking about 60 ounces of water every day.

In doing some research for this post, I ran across all sorts interesting articles and posts about water. Stuff about what temperature the water we drink should be, should you drink water standing up, and timing of when to drink water. For the sake of simplicity, I won’t dive into all those sidebar discussions right now.   As I said, my main goal is to help motivate you to drink enough water a day. Once you’ve got a handle of your water intake, then you can figure out the other stuff.

Okay, let’s go over the facts. What happens when we’re not fueling our bodies with enough water? One word - dehydration, but that one word turns into a multitude of symptoms:

digestive issues – constipation, abdominal discomforts, cramping
skin issues – dry, dull
fatigue – mental weakness, no endurance
mood – sad, stressed, uneasy

On the other hand, let’s see what some of the benefits of drinking enough water are:
aid in weight loss
supports healthy digestive system
brain health
healthy skin
preventative for headaches
increase energy
boost exercise performance
fight infection
flush toxins
healthy heart
 help joint pain

In case statistics aren't enough to keep you motivated. I’ve got two tips for you in helping to increase your water intake.

1) There’s an App for that! Yep, there a TONS of free water-tracking apps out there that will provide you with an audible alert to get your attention and get you guzzling that water.

2) There’s an Oil for that! Oh, come on, that’s funny! In all seriousness, using dōTERRA essential oils in your water* can help you spruce up your water, adding some delicious flavoring and feel like you’re getting a treat – not just water. The side benefit to using essential oils in your water is that they come with their own benefits. Here’s a very short list of some great oils choices to try in your water:

Lemon – gentle detox from free radicals and aids in digestion
DigestZen® - supports healthy digestion and soothes tummy issues
Slim & Sassy® or Grapefruit – appetite suppressant
Lime – immune support and healthy skin
Wild Orange – uplifting, energizing, and immune support
Peppermint – improve digestion, energizing, and freshen breath

*Please note I’m only referring to dōTERRA when I suggest internal consumption. You should always check the labels on your bottles and look for supplemental facts with specific internal consumption indicators. If ever a question, don’t ingest. I trust dōTERRA – they are very clear with what oils they recommend to use internally and super transparent with their quality, purity and testing.

With that in mind, if you’re already onboard with using dōTERRA essential oils internally I want to share one last think with you. This is a ten-day water drinking challenge. Can you handle it? Simply click on the image below for your free 10 Day Water Challenge.
That’s all I’ve got for you, for now. As always you know I’m here to help you in any area, so please feel free to reach out to me any time.

Drink up!
