If you're going to spend that much time cleaning up think about how important it is to use products that aren't filled with chemicals and toxins that can lead to health issues. The ingredients in most cleaning products are linked to that little headache to autoimmune diseases and even cancer. Do you know what's in your cleaning products?
We're coming to a close with our Healthy Home series. We went room by room and got natural solution recipes to help you ditch those toxic and chemical filled products you may have been using. We showed you just how easy it is to do it yourself, even if you’re not a huge fan of DIYs. The Healthy Home series helps you harness power of natural with nature! This week we'll wrap up the series with some miscellaneous green cleaning recipes for the family:
DUST WIPES
• 2 cups Distilled Water
• 2 tbsp Olive Oil
• 1 tbsp White Vinegar
• 25 drops Lemon Oil
DIRECTIONS:
Cut 3-5 cloth towels into fourths or quarters. In a large bowl combine all ingredients, mix well and add cloths. Soak until cloths are saturated. Ring each cloth out and tightly roll up cloths and store in an airtight container. If your cloths dry out, just dampen them with water to refresh.
ERASER SPONGE
• 1 Melamine Sponge
• 1 tbsp Baking Soda
• 1 tsp Borax
• 1/2 cup Hot Water
• 3 drops Purify - Cleansing Blend or Lemon Oil
DIRECTIONS:
Add baking soda, borax, hot water and essential oil to glass container and mix until dissolved. Place melamine sponge in the mixture and press to absorb the liquid. To use, remove the sponge, wring out extra liquid and begin cleaning. When finished, rise the sponge with cold water an return to the glass container with the mixture.
GOO-B-GONE
• 1 cup Baking Soda
• 1/2 cup Oil (Fractionated Coconut Oil)
• 1 tsp Dish Soap or On Guard Concentrate
• 20 drops Lemon Oil
DIRECTIONS:
Mix all ingredients in a bowl until consistency is smooth. Store in an airtight glass container. To use - remove as much of the label/sticker from the container a possible. Spread mixture generously over the sticker, rub it in a bit with your fingers to help it absorb. Leave mixture on container for 10-15 minutes or longer. With your finger rub in circular motions until all adhesive is removed. Wipe off with a paper towel and wash with a little soap and water. Repeat if necessary for stubborn spots.
Tip: Lemon essential oil alone can do the trick. I rarely even have to leave it for more than 60 seconds before being able to wipe clean.
FOAMING HAND SOAP
• 1 cup Distilled Water
• 2 tablespoons Liquid Castile Soap (unscented)
• 1 tbls Fractionated Coconut Oil
• 10- 20 drops Essential Oils of Choice
DIRECTIONS:
Pour castile soap into glass, foaming hand dispenser. Add essential oils, then slowly add water into bottle making leaving room for the pump. Screw lid on and shake to combine.
Tip: Add 1 tsp vegetable glycerin for more of lather.
YOGA MAT SPRAY
• 3/4 cup Water
• 1/4 cup Witch Hazel or White Vinegar
• 5 drops each: Eucalyptus, Lavender & Tea Tree Oil (or oils of choice)
DIRECTIONS:
Combine all ingredients in a glass spray bottle. Shake until combined and before each use. Spray on mat and wipe clean with towel. Let air dry completely before rolling up.
NAIL POLISH REMOVER
• 10 drops Lemongrass Oil
• 2 oz White Vinegar or Rubbing Alcohol
DIRECTIONS:
Add essential oils to a 2 ounce glass bottle and fill the remainder of the bottle with white vinegar or rubbing alcohol. Shake to combine. Add solution to a cotton ball and rub onto nails to remove polish.
Tip: For think coated nail polish, let Lemongrass solution sit on nail bed for 30-60 seconds.
GRILL CLEANER
• 1/4 cup Baking Soda
• 2 tbsp Castile Soap
• 5 drops Lemon Oil
• Distilled White Vinegar
DIRECTIONS:
Combine baking soda, castile soap, and Lemon oil. Add vinegar until it has an olive oil consistency. Brush mixture on the metal grill and let sit for 15-20 minutes. Use a grill brush to scrub the surface clean. Rinse with water.
