Who doesn't love summer? The lush green trees and grass, the beautiful flowers, playing outside, swimming, going for walks and bike rides, traveling, exploring, camping, fishing, gardening, golfing, amusement parks and water rides, indulging in yummy cookouts, ice cream, and treats - the list is endless
But with all of the goodness that is summer, can also come some uncomfortable realities. I'm bringing you six summertime discomfort recipes that will help you be able to keep enjoying ALL the things you love about summer.

Seasonal Zen
20 drops each: Lemon, Lavender & Peppermint
Top with Fractionated Coconut Oil (or carrier oil of choice)
Directions: Roll on bottoms of small toes and feet, back of neck, and around sinus areas. For added support and longer lasting effects, this seasonal blend trio comes in a supplement - TriEase. Take 1-2 per day as needed. It usually helps with seasonal head tension too!
Whether you bent over in the garden too long, killed it on your bike ride, or your feet are killing you from all the walking you did at the waterpark. Regardless of what activity you've enjoyed, you've clearly overdone it - enter this homemade remedy to help ease your irritated body.
Discomfort Bomb
Internal (empty veggie capsule):
2 drops each: Copaiba, Frankincense, Lemongrass & Marjoram
Directions: Take as needed, not to exceed more than 4 in a 24 hour period.
Topical (10mL roller bottle):
10 drops each: Copaiba, Frankincense, Lemongrass & Marjoram
Top with Fractionated Coconut Oil (or carrier oil of choice)
Directions: Roll directly on area requiring extra TLC and support.
You love exploring and traveling, but sometimes your stomach can't handle the ride getting there. Or perhaps you overindulged too much at your friends bar-b-que or you didn't make the best choices at the amusement park. Whatever your cause your tummy is screaming for help and that's where this roller bottle recipe comes in.
Digestive Health
20 drops each: DigestZen & Wild Orange
Top with Fractionated Coconut Oil (or carrier oil of choice)
Directions: Roll on stomach and/or bottoms of feet as needed. For quick oral relief use 1-2 Peppermint Beadlets (beadlets are tiny 1/4 of a drop of doTERRA Peppermint - safe for kids too) to soothe your tummy.
I live in Colorado, so thankfully we don't have to contend with a lot of bugs. Although this year has been crazy with the grasshoppers! I love hanging out on our deck in the summer, that's our living and dining area for as long as possible. If you're like me and love being outside, but need some help keeping those pesky critters away give this DIY bug spray a try.
Bye Bye Bug Spray
10 drops each: TerraShield, Lemongrass, Geranium, and Peppermint
Top with Fractionated Coconut Oil (or carrier oil of choice). You may also choose to dilute with a little water.
Directions: Spray all over exposed body parts as needed. Can also be applied to your pets collar. Another tip - if you're hanging on your deck/patio you can do 1-2 drops of each in a diffuser.
Okay, so with all the fun we're having outside we're bound to irritate our skin. Too much fun in the sun, a scrape from the bike pedal, a cut from the lawn chair klutz! Oh, is that just me? Hahaha! Whatever, even if it's not you, someone in your house in bound to need some extra love on their skin.
Irritated Skin Spray
10 drops each: Lavender, Frankincense & Tea Tree
Topped with Fractionated Coconut Oil (or carrier oil of choice).
Directions: Spray on skin that needs a little extra attention. For added support and/or smaller irritation try doTERRA Correct-X® - a multi-purpose, natural ointment that helps soothe skin and enhance the natural process of skin returning to a healthy state. (a miracle in a tube in my opinion - wink).
We all know that head tension can come in all forms - dull, sharp, front of the head, all over the head, ones that mess with vision or make you queasy - ALL types, right? So what you use with this protocol will depend on the severity of your particular type of head tension.
Head Tension Protocol
1-2 drops of Frankincense on thumb and press to the roof of your mouth for 2 minutes. *Note, it'll look like your sucking your thumb and taste like dirt, but hey, if it works...
I recommend diluting PastTense because it's intense! A little goes a long way too. This is the tension blend, so the oils are meant for this task. Either use a tiny bit of unscented lotion, or a couple drops of a carrier oil, like Fractionated Coconut Oil, and 1-2 drops of PastTense and apply to the back of your neck and even your temples (just be VERY careful to avoid the eyes - even the "fumes" can be potent and cause you to tear up). (or carrier oil of choice). You may also choose to dilute with a little water. You can also make a roller bottle for easier application. Use 10-20 drops of PastTense in a 10mL roller bottle and top with carrier oil of choice. That way you have a ready made, pre-diluted bottle ready to go.
Deep Blue is known for it's soothing and cooling properties, specifically for our muscles and joints, but it's a fantastic addition to this head tension protocol. I would use it similarly to PastTense in diluting it in lotion or carrier oil. In addition to applying to temples and forehead you might try giving yourself a mini massage on your neck.
If you happen to have such bad head tension that it makes you nauseous that's when your introduce DigestZen to the protocol. You can add 1-2 drops to some water or if you don't like the taste you can either apply directly to your stomach or take 1-2 drops in an empty veggie capsule (or even easier, take a DigestZen softgel, if you have it).
In my experience you have to find a protocol that works best for your body and it does matter the type of head tension you have. For example, if none of the oils in this head tension protocol seems to do the trick for you, you might be experiencing low blood sugar. I know when I don't eat regularly, I get some killer head tension and oils don't seem to dissipate it much. So my personal tip in that case is to make sure you've hydrated (like chug at least 20oz of water), get something to eat - even if you don't feel like it, and you just have to give it a little time.
