Last week I talked about
5 Ways to Balance Hormones Naturally. Today we’re going to dive a little deeper on the topic of hormones with some other ways to create healthy happy hormones. Why? Hormones are at the root of everything. When our hormones are out of whack we can experience unpleasant symptoms like weight gain, low libido, acne, hair loss, digestive issues, mood swings, and irregular cycles in females. And while we love to overcomplicate things, taking proactive steps can be pretty simple.
Although it seems to be one of the hardest things we can do, it’s also one of the simplest things we can do to support our hormones, and that’s to reduce your toxic load. Basically, every product we bring into our home can be a good choice or [because I don’t want to call it bad] a questionable choice. You see just because something is sold to us doesn’t mean it’s A) been tested or B) that it’s good for us. Unfortunately, there are far too many products on the market that contain ingredients that are hormone disrupters. The number one word I’d look for in your ingredient list is the word fragrance. Avoiding that one word with your personal care, hygiene, and cleaning products is, in my opinion, the best place to start. I’m sorry in advance. If you do this, you’ll see why I said it’s the simplest but the hardest at the same time. For other tips check out my blog post:
Reduce Your Toxic Load.
It’s important to find reputable companies that offer toxin-free solutions you can trust. I get nearly 100% of my households’ products from doTERRA. I love the convenience of having them delivered to my door. And if you’re into perks and free products, they have a
loyalty reward program that’s amazing, flexible, and completely customizable.
There are two major hormone regulators within our endocrine system that I want to address specifically – the pancreas and the thyroid gland.
The pancreas aids in our digestion, making special enzyme juices that help break down fat, starch, and sugar. It also produces insulin, a hormone, that helps regulate blood sugar. Insulin helps blood sugar enter the body’s cells that are in-turn used for energy.
SUPPORTING THE PANCREAS
Get Moving – Our insulin levels decrease during exercise, so find a way to exercise if it’s just a little each day.
Eat Well – Eat as much fresh food as possible. Try to avoid eating processed and pre-packaged foods as much as possible. The pancreas doesn’t have to work as hard with foods high in protein and antioxidants.
Supplement – Our bodies are amazing, but sometimes our environment and/or choices are not. We can help support our pancreas (and more) with digestive enzymes, probiotics and an overall health/multi-vitamin. My go-to’s here are doTERRA TerraZyme, PB Assist+, and Lifelong Vitality Supplements.
Oil Up – Essential oils like Cinnamon Bark, Oregano, Coriander, Melissa, and Clove have been found by researchers to support the enzymes produced by the pancreas.
The thyroid is a hormone regulator that plays a major role in the body’s metabolism, growth and development. Our metabolism is the process of converting our food/drink into energy. When our thyroid hormones are unbalanced they can lead to conditions that fall into an over or underactive thyroid.
SUPPORTING THE THYROID
Essential Fats – Including healthy fats, like nuts/seeds, avocados, EVOO (extra virgin olive oil), and fish can support the thyroid gland with anti-inflammatory benefits.
Essential Oils – Frankincense, Myrrh, Lemongrass and Clove applied over the thyroid a few times a day can help to maintain optimal thyroid function.
When our thyroid or pancreas aren’t performing optimally, one of the most affected areas is our metabolism. In addition to implementing the tips mentioned above to support the thyroid and pancreas. A simple way to give your metabolism a little boost is to drink plenty of water. You can add 2-3 drops of [internally suggested] essential oils to your water a few times per day. Some yummy go-to’s are Grapefruit, Peppermint, Cinnamon or Lemon essential oils.
