Spring Cleaning Your Kitchen

Spring is a time of renewal and fresh starts that a lot of times leads to cleaning. Spring cleaning is a way to make sure that the home is ready for the warmer months and declutter the winter accumulations. The average amount of time spent in a kitchen is over 2 hours and 15 minutes per day and that doesn’t even account for eat-in kitchens. That’s why I thought I’d highlight kitchen spring cleaning specifically. Cleaning the kitchen will not only help keep your kitchen fresh and organized, but it also helps to keep you and your family healthy. A messy kitchen can be a breeding ground for germs and bacteria, which can cause food poisoning and other illnesses.

One of the most important things to remember when spring cleaning is to use natural, non-toxic products. There are many options available, from baking soda and vinegar to essential oils and plant-based cleaners. Baking soda is great for scrubbing surfaces and removing odors, while vinegar is a natural disinfectant and deodorizer. Essential oils are not only natural solutions that smell great, they’re mighty powerful too! Plant-based cleaners are also a great choice, as they are made from natural ingredients like coconut and palm oils.

When spring cleaning, it is also important to pay attention to the air quality in your home. Many conventional cleaning products contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that can cause respiratory irritation and other health problems. To reduce VOCs, try using essential oils and if you’re not in a heavily polluted area, open the windows to let in some fresh air.

Trust me when I say that there are nearly endless combinations of essential oils and DIY recipes out there for making your own non-toxic cleaning products. If you want a little taste, you can view this ebook on Cleaning with Essential Oils or I devoted all of May and June of 2021 to DIY cleaning recipes. Check them out in the Healthy Home category on my blog.
I’ve made plenty of them over the years, but I’ve gotta be honest, when doTERRA launched their line of home cleaning products, abōde®, it sure did make things easier. I really like and use the entire abōde® line, but the product I want to highlight for you today is the Multi-Purpose Surface Cleaner.
It’s tough on grease and grime, naturally effective with a plant-based formula that includes Thymol, which is widely known for its powerful cleansing properties. It’s free from phosphates, sulfates, phthalates, dyes, and chlorine. Plus, it’s formulated to provide a naturally fresh, citrus aroma. I will use this one multi-purpose surface spay on all of the items on the below spring cleaning kitchen checklist.
