Allergies occur when the immune system overreacts to substances that are typically harmless—like pollen, dust, pet dander, or certain foods. Instead of recognizing these as neutral, the body treats them as threats and releases chemicals like histamine, which leads to symptoms such as sneezing, itchy eyes, congestion, and skin irritation.
What’s fascinating—and often frustrating—is that not everyone reacts the same way. Some people experience intense seasonal allergies, while others barely notice them. Even more confusing, symptoms can vary from year to year. This fluctuation can be influenced by factors like stress levels, environmental toxin exposure, diet, gut health, and even weather patterns (hello, high pollen seasons!).
The good news is that there are many natural ways to support your body and reduce your sensitivity to these seasonal triggers.

ESSENTIAL OILS for ALLERGIES
One of the most popular and effective natural approaches to seasonal allergy support (and beyond like pet allergies) is the combination of Lemon, Lavender, and Peppermint essential oils. Often referred to as the “allergy trio,” these oils work synergistically to:
- Lemon: Cleanse and support the body’s natural detoxification processes
- Lavender: Soothe inflammation and calm immune responses
- Peppermint: Open airways and provide cooling relief
How to Use:
- Add 2 drops each to a veggie capsule *Make sure that if you take essential oils internally that you use high-quality oils that are safe for internal consumption.
- Add 2 drops each in a diffuser
- Add 10 drops each in an empty 10mL roller bottle topping with carrier oil of choice (like Fractioned Coconut Oil, Jojoba, Grapeseed, etc.) and apply to chest, lungs, throat or back of the neck.
- Diffuse throughout your home during high pollen days

For convenience,
doTERRA TriEase Seasonal Blend Softgels is a ready-made supplement that combines Lemon, Lavender, and Peppermint in a simple capsule—perfect for daily support without the guesswork.

NATURAL REMEDIES for ALLERGY SYMPTOMS
2-Ingredient Cough Syrup
- Slice 1 onion and layer with raw honey in a jar until filled
- Cover jar and let sit at room temperature overnight
- Take 1tsp as needed
This old-school remedy helps soothe the throat and break up mucus naturally. You can strain out the onion, if you prefer it to be smoother with no chunks of onion.
Itchy Eyes & Sinus Pressure
- Use a cool compress with a drop of Lavender
- Try a saline rinse (neti pot) to flush allergens from nasal passages
- Diffuse Peppermint for a refreshing, opening effect
Hives & Skin Reactions
- Apply aloe vera gel directly to affected areas
- Take an oatmeal bath to calm itching

- Use diluted Lavender oil for soothing relief
Bug Bites & Stings
- Apply Tea Tree + Lavender (diluted) to reduce swelling and itching
- Use a baking soda paste (baking soda + water) for quick relief
- Or my favorite, Correct-X Essential Ointment – it’s a crazy-good multipurpose ointment combining Frankincense, Helichrysum, Tea Tree, Cedarwood, and Lavender essential oils to soothe and rejuvenate the skin + Bisabolol, Phellodendron Amurense Bark and Jojoba Seed Oil to hydrate and condition the skin.
Headache Relief (Sinus or Tension)
- Apply Peppermint oil (diluted) to temples and neck

- Practice acupressure - it can relieve headache pain by releasing muscle tension and improving blood flow. Apply firm, deep pressure or massage each area for 30-60 seconds. Make sure you focus on your breath and breathe deeply while using acupressure.

SINUS INFECTIONS
Sinus infections often begin when allergens cause inflammation in the nasal passages. This swelling can trap mucus, creating the perfect environment for bacteria to grow. What starts as seasonal allergies can quickly turn into congestion, pressure, and infection.
Unfortunately, this is exactly what happens to me. In fact, I can go from no allergy symptoms at all to early signs of a sinus infection (like tooth or ear pain) overnight. I keep a diluted bottle of
Oregano by my bed just for this reason. If I wake up in the middle of the night and feel that pressure in my teeth or ear, I roll the Oregano along my jawline and around my ear, then go back to sleep—9 out of 10 times, it’s completely gone by morning.
In the rare instance that a full sinus infection sets in, I have another solution. I know for many, antibiotics have become the default. But did you know that many sinus infections are viral and can resolve on their own? Frequent antibiotic use can contribute to resistance, teaching harmful bacteria how to adapt and survive, which may make future treatments less effective.
It can also impact gut health, as antibiotics don’t just target harmful bacteria—they also reduce beneficial bacteria, meaning we often need to rebuild with probiotics (which many of us already don’t get enough of). There are additional considerations as well, but I’ll step off my soapbox and instead share my go-to natural alternative—because I’m all about supporting the body’s ability to fight and clear infection on its own.

My Go-To Natural Protocol: F.L.O.O.T + C
A powerful blend of:
How to Use:
- Add 2 drops of each to a veggie capsule and take 2–3 times daily
- OR add 5 drops each to a 10mL roller bottle and top with carrier oil of choice, then apply along the spine and bottoms of feet 2-3 times daily, especially before bed.
Personal note: Prior to using natural solutions, I used to get 2 sinus infections a year like clockwork. Since switching to this natural protocol, not only haven’t I needed an antibiotic, but I rarely even get a full-blown sinus infection. Supporting my body instead of suppressing symptoms has been a game-changer.

ADDITIONAL HOLISTIC STRATEGIES
- Hydration: Helps thin mucus and flush allergens

- Local Raw Honey: May help the body adapt to local pollen

- Air Purifiers & Clean Spaces: Reduce indoor allergens

- Showering After Outdoor Exposure: Removes pollen from skin and hair

- Gut Health Support: A strong gut = a balanced immune system

- Anti-Inflammatory Foods: Leafy greens, berries, omega-3s
Seasonal allergies don’t have to control your life. When you understand what’s happening in your body—and support it holistically—you can shift from reacting to thriving. Whether it’s the powerful trio of Lemon, Lavender, and Peppermint, the convenience of TriEase, or simple remedies like honey and onion syrup, there are countless natural tools available to you.
